![]() Story was actually good for the most part, the motion-captured cutscenes looked great (I was impressed that almost all of them were real-time, so you could use the classic Dante skin and only occasionally it would break the immersion). ![]() Occasional tedium, especially in parts where you fall off often and fight colour-coded enemies which limits what weapons you can use. I often bitch about platforming in hack-and-slash games but here (there's a LOT of it) I didn't mind much because it was decently handled and again, like Alice, it's more like an adventure-hack-and-slash rather than a full-on hack-and-slash game. Gameplay is closer to Alice: Madness Returns than the DMC games, it was serviceable though there were some parts that coulda been improved. One of the best soundtracks I've heard in a game - I was wondering all game long why it sounded so familiarly good, turns out it's by Combichrist :GWjiangLoveHeart: I prefer the old character designs, but the new ones were all likeable (read: g o r g e o u s) as well, especially new Vergil. But as its own standalone game, it was fun, the aesthetic was super-cool, and the soundtrack was phenomenal. I prefer old Dante by miles, and gameplay-wise I think DMC3 and 4 are better as well. It was unnecessary yeah, but since it did get made Team Ninja Theory deserve credit for doing a pretty good job. If you're a big DMC fan, you'll like this game, but otherwise you can skip it and not feel too bad.Ĩ0% PCI. Overall, DmC stands fine on its own as a decent game, but when compared to the rest of the DMC franchise, it's really apparent that the original franchise is head and shoulders above this offering. It's a typical hack and slash offering that waters down the pulse pounding, fun action that DMC usually brings to the table. It simplifies the combat introduced in other DMC games, and although it's fun, it gets boring. It's more connected to the idea of heaven and hell than previous games, but overall it really doesn't do anything special for the story other than retread and rewrite things that already happened in DMC1 and 3 which, I guess is what a reboot should be? To me, a little unimpressive. Vergil's there, Dante's there (but has black hair?), Mundus and Sparda are there. Story-wise, DmC doesn't do anything special. The combat was forgettable and as was the story, which retreads what the original game did but in more confusing ways. 5/10ħ0% PlayStation 3DmC: Devil May Cry is a decent game, but it stands on the shoulders of a great franchise and makes some interesting choices. If you really want to play this thing do yourself a favor and play the Definitive Edition on consoles as it fixes a lot of things about the game such as removing the fedora off of weeaboo Vergil. The art-style of the game is what all 2010s Unreal Engine games look like, however there are about two interesting looking levels in the whole game which are a nice distraction from the rest of the ugly looking sets. It gets a little better at harder difficulties, almost being fun, but for the most part it's boring and unmemorable. It really says something about a Devil May Cry game when the best thing about the combat is the ability to drag enemies towards you. ![]() The game's normal mode is dreadfully easy to the point you don't really need to do anything other than getting the enemy airborne and just doing the helicopter attack with your sword. ![]() It's a lot like a grapefruit and by that I mean you can't really have fun with it out of the box, you need to sprinkle some sugar or something to make it palatable. 50% PCYou really have to try your best to squeeze any sincere enjoyment out of this title.
